LA Spurs

The LA Spurs, a five-a-side team sponsored by the Limbless Association and run by Dean Heffer (our Sports+ Officer), play in the Middlesex County FA PAN Disability County League.  The team won the league and cup double in 2008-2009 season and repeated it the following season.
The LA Spurs is the only team in the league that has amputee players.  While this makes it hard going at times, the team makes up for its loss of limbs with great team spirit and determination to play the game.  The league comprises 4 teams and all four teams play each other every month.  Each game is 20 minutes long (10 minutes each way).  For more details of the league, and the current league table, please click here
It would be great if you could come and watch us play and to support the team.  Why not come along and sign up to play as we are always looking for new players.  For more details, please call the Sports+ desk on 01245 216670.

2011 news

To mark European Limb Loss Day on 3 December, the LA Spurs played three football matches against a team from Roehampton Limb Centre, made up of Prosthetists.  A battle of those who wear the legs and those that make them!
The matches were played at the  Wandle Centre, Wandsworth and it is hoped that this will become an annual event to help f raise the profile of amputees. Sports Officer Dean Heffer said that  “…. it was a great opportunity for people to come down and watch amputees playing football and hopefully it might get more amputees involved in the game.  The team wouldnt even be playing if it wasnt for the great work the prosthetists do“,
