Remembering at 35!
“The finest memories are those where we have helped someone without expecting anything in return.”
Byron Pulsifer
In 2018 the LA celebrates 35 years of supporting amputees and we couldn’t have carried out our work without the generosity and kindness of our members, supporters, volunteers and fundraisers. You are all the reason we are here supporting amputees and their families year on year - THANK YOU!
Our memory wall at 35 celebrates you all! Keep visiting this page to read more of your wonderful stories!

Tammy Tudge took on Total Warrior in 2016 raising £949 for the LA!
In August 2015, Tammy’s mum had her left leg amputated. She also suffers from angina and arthritis. Her mum has also been told that she will need to have her right leg amputated too and thereafter is very likely never to walk again as she has been told that her heart won’t take the strain of trying to walk on 2 prosthetic legs. Every day is hard for her as she cannot do the things she wants to do and is also lookin...

Sophie & Emma Smith organised a Cake Sale and Sponsored Silence raising £1,002 for the LA!
Following a sudden abdominal aortic aneurysm in 2015, my Grandad lost the whole of his right leg. It was a massive shock to our family and he had only 10% chance of surviving the whole ordeal. As a result of this, my sister and I decided to fundraise for a charity that makes a difference to the lives of amputees, the Limbless Association. Between us we organised a cake sale and sponsored silence, as well as offli...

I have had operations every year of my life since I was born to try correct the problem I had with my ankle and foot turning in and not been flat on the floor but nothing ever worked it always went back after surgery, so the decison was made to stop all the pain and all the recovery over and over and have amputation done which was the best decision I made.
So because of all the help I had over the years, I de...

Ella Dove climbed the O2 arena in 2017 raising £405 for the LA!
The LA is there for every amputee. It ensures no-one needs to cope alone. That's why I'm always keen to get involved in any way I can, to raise valuable funds and to challenge myself in ways I never imagined I could. In 2017, I took on a 400m wild swim in Dorney Lake for the Superhero Triathlon, and I climbed the O2 arena - both as part of team LA. I want to say a big thank you for allowing me to get involved, an...

Lydia Barba ran a half marathon in 2017 raising £283 for the LA!
The Limbless Association is a charity that gives a sense of normality and well being for those that have missing limbs. It is also a charity that I feel strongly to support with having my Grandad lose both of his legs. I saw how much this can affect someone's life from simple day to day things we take advantage of. I also saw how important it is to provide people that have missing limbs the right support...

Maria Riley climbed Everest in 2012 raising £387 for the LA!
I did Everest Base Camp Trek for The Limbless Association because a family friend's son had had an accident at work and after a few years of surgeries, the only option ended up being that they amputate his leg. He was just 21 at the time, but the courage and good spirit that he showed was inspirational. He's gotten to grips with his prosthetic, is now a father and will be getting married this year.
A friend was orga...

Mike Sole runs London Marathon 2014 raising £931 for the LA!
I ran the London Marathon in 2014. Well it might be more accurate to say that I completed it rather than ran it as in the last five miles, although I was going forward and using a running movement, other participants were walking past me.
It was three hours of pleasant jogging, two hours of struggle and then a further hour and a half of absolute exhaustion. Not pain, but complete exhaustion. But it did it.
The suppor...

Louise Thomas ran Bupa 10K in 2014 raising £104 for the LA!
I decided to support the Limbless Association after my, now late, Grandad had to have his leg amputated. He was such a brave man, and although he was older he never let his amputation stop him from doing what he wanted. It never held him back from carrying on to enjoy life and doing the things he enjoyed the most! I ran the BUPA 10K, which was my first ever big running event, and absolutely loved it!
