European Limb Loss Day 2012

10th July 2012

As a national charity that represents the interests of the limb loss community in the UK, we are pleased to announce that the Limbless Association will again be promoting the forthcoming European Limb Loss Day.  This day, which takes place on 3 December 2012, forms part of the annual International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD).

The IDPD has objectives to promote:

• an awareness of disability issues;

• the fundamental rights of persons with disabilities; and

• the integration of persons with disabilities in the main stream of each aspect of the social, political, economic and cultural status of their communities.

Theme

This year, the IDPD theme is:

“Removing barriers to create an inclusive and accessible society for all.”

The European Limb Loss Day presents an opportunity for the limb loss charities and User and Support Groups to work towards raising awareness of the issues faced by amputees (e.g. benefits changes, the existimg gaps in post operative care, the postcode lottery regarding limb provision).
